Hi everyone,
the idea for CityTour AI came from a trip to Bologna.
I wanted to explore the city with ChatGPT. It actually worked surprisingly well, but the experience was pretty clunky. I constantly had to switch between ChatGPT, Google Maps, and my browser. I had to explain exactly what I was looking for, copy locations into Maps, and after a while the conversation started losing context.
I built CityTour AI to make the whole experience seamless. You simply choose a city, your interests, and how much time you have. Behind the scenes, an LLM suggests and ranks places to visit. My backend then matches those suggestions to real OpenStreetMap locations, optimizes the route, and creates a coherent story connecting all the stops.
During the tour, the route is displayed on the map and every stop comes with an AI-generated audio guide that focuses on the things you're actually interested in, whether that's history, architecture, food, art, or hidden gems. You can also ask follow-up questions during the tour, just like talking to a personal guide.

the LLM-suggests-then-matches-to-OSM pipeline is a smart way to avoid pure hallucinated addresses. curious about the failure case though - what happens when the LLM suggests a place that's genuinely great but permanently closed, moved, or just isn't in OSM at all for that city? does it silently drop it and route around, or does it ever surface a dud stop mid-tour?
@micha_helbig - This looks awesome, I'm actually off to visit York, in the UK in a few weeks, and this would be the perfect tool to have in my pocket during the visit, however it looks like as of today, it's not listed. Are you planning on adding more cities in the future?
Honestly the concept is really cool, I love being able to pick how much time I have. One thing I'd love is an option to save tours offline before you head out, since roaming in a new city is kind of a nightmare and I'd hate to lose the audio guides mid walk.
