Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Rod, and I build Chervil.
For thirty years the browser has handed us the same thing: a box, ten blue links, and a to-do list. You search, you open the tabs, you reconcile the contradictions, you assemble the answer in your head.
Chervil flips that. You talk to Sprig (the leafy guy in the thumbnail 🌿) and he searches the live web and composes one cited page for your exact question. When you actually want a real site, like your bank or your email, it opens live. Chervil is a full everyday browser too.
Three things I cared about that I couldn't find anywhere else:
1. It's open source (MIT), and the model isn't in charge. An AI browser holds your keys and can click things for you, so "trust me" isn't good enough. A deterministic layer gates every action (allow / confirm / deny). Payments and logins are always blocked, and everything Sprig does lands in a Trust Ledger you can read and undo.
2. Bring your own model. Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, Azure, or fully local Ollama. Your keys stay encrypted on your machine.
3. It works when you're not looking. Give Sprig a standing goal ("keep me posted on the Electron 40 release") and he keeps a cited briefing, pinging you only when a real number changes, not when the wording does. He also remembers what you've read, in an index that never leaves your computer.
Honest caveats: it's an alpha, it's Windows-only for now (Mac is the #1 request, and I hear you), and I've shipped ~30 releases in 3 months, so there are rough edges.
