I built CarbonSight because I kept running into the same problem, every carbon-tracking app assumed you had reliable internet. Where I'm based, that's often not true and if a climate tool doesn't work without a strong connection, it simply doesn't work for a huge part of the world.
The core problem I wanted to solve was simple, help people understand the actual environmental impact of the food they're about to eat, before they eat it — not after, when it's too late to choose differently.
My approach evolved a lot along the way. I started thinking about this purely as a tracking app, but it became clear that offline-first wasn't a 'nice to have' — it needed to be the foundation, not an add-on. That shaped everything from how data syncs to how the product database works when you're completely disconnected.
