Hi everyone! 👋
I'm Laurent, a school IT worker and dad of two kids in France.
I built Calcul Mental Challenge because every math app I tried for my
kids was either full of ads, too basic, or paid after 5 minutes. So
one Sunday afternoon, I started coding a simple multiplication quiz.
My son loved it. Then he wanted to play against his sister. Then
against his class. Then against the school next door.
Fast forward to today: 13 operation types, 10+ game modes, 1v1 duels
with ELO ranking, Battle Royale up to 32 players, and "School Wars"
where entire schools compete weekly.
Teachers use it too — they can run a classroom session in 30 seconds
via local network, get detailed reports per student, and even pit two
classes against each other with "Class Battle".
The whole thing is:
- 100% free, no ads, no tracking, no email required
- Available in French, English, Spanish and Chinese
- Built with vanilla JS (no framework), Web Audio API for sounds
- 14,000 lines of code, one developer
- Available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android & iOS
