Bonsai — Care & Growth Journal
Anti-Planta/Greg — the first plant app understands bonsai
Every plant app treats your juniper like a pothos. Bonsai doesn't. It's a photo journal + care diary built only for bonsai — growth timelines across years, gentle watering reminders, species-aware notes, long-image export. 100% on-device. Free, no subscription.
Hey PH 👋
I grow bonsai. About 14 trees right now — a juniper from 2019, two Japanese maples, a stubborn ficus that refuses to back-bud. And every plant care app I've tried treats them like houseplants.
Planta and Greg are great for pothos. But bonsai isn't a chore — it's a years-long project in slow art. You don't water on a 7-day schedule. You don't need an "identify my plant" feature.
What you need is a way to see how your tree has changed across five seasons of pruning, wiring, and back-budding.
So I built Bonsai.
→ Every tree gets its own photo journal — one tap per photo
→ Growth timeline: swipe through years of a single tree
→ Gentle watering reminders (daily in summer, careful in winter)
→ Species-aware notes for juniper, ficus, jade, pine, maple, azalea…
→ Long-image / collage export — for r/Bonsai or sending to a friend
→ 100% on-device. No account, no cloud, no data collection
The design leans Japanese — quiet, zen, focused on the tree itself. 120Hz scrolling, full Dark Mode, native iOS — not a web wrapper.
Would love feedback from anyone who keeps trees — what would make this the bonsai journal you actually open every week?
