Hey Product Hunt - I built BEST because I was frustrated. I love tracking what I watch, but Letterboxd always felt clunky to me — the social side, the part I actually cared about, was buried behind a rough experience. Meanwhile I'm obsessed with Beli for restaurants: that head-to-head "which did you like more?" ranking just works, and it's fun with friends.
So I made the app I wanted: Beli, but for everything you play, watch, and hear. No hollow 5-star ratings — you rank things against each other, and it builds a true list of your taste. The whole point is doing it with your friends: shared lists that merge into one consensus ranking.
The biggest shift while building was realizing the ranking mechanic wasn't the hard part — getting people to the social features fast was. That's the exact friction that annoyed me elsewhere, so it became the thing I obsessed over.

the head to head ranking thing is way more fun than rating stuff out of 5, felt like I was actually figuring out my own taste instead of just guessing what number to tap.
