I played basketball my whole life, all the way through warming the bench on my D3 college team, the CMS Stags. At every level I played at, I saw the same thing — head coaches who were incredibly talented, deeply dedicated, but completely overextended.
It was never a people problem, it was always a resources problem. One or two coaches would be trying to do the work of an entire staff. Individual player development, offensive coordination, defensive preparation, strength and conditioning. This all falls on the same one or two people who were already stretched thin just keeping the program running day to day.
The high major and professional programs don't have that problem. The head coach acts more as a CEO and they have a full bench of coaches at their disposal. The gap in resources between those programs and everyone else is truly enormous. And I know for a fact that it compounds over time in ways that show up in player development, team cohesion, and ultimately wins and losses.
A few months ago I started experimenting with AI agents and the idea just clicked. What if every coach had access to a full staff? One that knew their philosophy, remembered every player, and stayed coordinated around a single vision? An offensive coach, a defensive coach, a player development coach, a strength and conditioning coach, and a lead assistant who pulls it all together.
