Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Vitor, I built Backyard on my own.
The idea came from walking past the same building for years and having no clue what actually happened there. Every "audio tour" app I tried made me pick a city and a route first, which meant I'd only ever use it on vacation, never on my own street. So I built the opposite: you just open the app and walk. No route to pick. It figures out where you are and tells you a real story about that exact spot, generated on the fly, in one of five moods depending on whether you want history, gossip, true crime, or something weirder.
A few things I'm proud of: there's a fog-of-war map that only reveals the parts of the city you've actually walked (Terra Incognita), fixed tap-through tours for museums, and a live map of real public events happening nearby.
Under the hood it's Supabase for auth and the database, OpenAI for the narration itself, and Google Cloud TTS for the voice. Genuinely could not have built this alone without how far those got me before I needed to hire anyone.
Heads up that this is still a beta. I'm a solo founder, this is very early (no revenue yet, a handful of real users), and I'm actively finding and fixing things every day. If something breaks, looks wrong, or just feels off, please tell me. Comment here, DM me, whatever's easiest.
