Atelier is an open source desktop app that brings AI to the tools people actually work in every day: document editing, mail merge, receipt reading, and more coming (spreadsheets, calendar, tasks). Most AI products are a chat window bolted onto a hosted API. It runs locally, Mac and Linux, so your files never have to leave your machine to get the benefit of AI. Built with Tauri, Rust, React, and SQLite. Licensed AGPL-3.0, fully forkable, and built for people who want AI usage beyond just chat.

Hey everyone, maker here. Here's the thing that got me building this. Every week there's a better model, but for most people none of that translates into anything useful, because the only interface anyone ships is a chat box. Some categories of AI usage did find their shape: support agents, quality monitoring, coding assistants. Good for those teams. But that's a narrow slice of how people actually spend their day. For most of us, work looks like a document, a spreadsheet, a mail merge, a stack of receipts, a calendar. Nobody built the AI tool for that. Atelier is my attempt at closing that gap. Not a chatbot, an actual desktop app built around real document workflows, running locally so your data doesn't need to leave your machine. It's early. I'm one person building this on the side. Would genuinely love to hear what's missing, what's wrong, and what would make this something you'd actually use day to day.

Honestly love that it runs locally, the mail merge with AI on my own files actually feels genuinely useful. Tauri stack is a nice touch too.

love that it actually lives in the apps i already use instead of being another chat tab to babysit, and keeping everything local with tauri and sqlite is a smart way to make that feel trustworthy.

Finally tried Atelier on my Mac and the local-only angle is what sold me. The receipt reader pulled totals from a messy PDF in seconds without anything touching the cloud, and it all feels snappy in Tauri.

Who hunted Atelier?

Atelier was hunted by Arthur Clément. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
