Actually Hangout is an app that helps you see your friends in person, not just when you doom-scroll past them on Instagram or as a little bubble in the group chat.
hey y'all 👋
I wanted to introduce Actually Hangout and the why behind it!
We all have that friend we only see as a story on Instagram or a bubble in the group chat. Someone you actually care about, actually know, and somehow never actually see.
Social media promised to keep us close. Instead we got feeds full of people we never hang out with and group chats where plans go to die. Staying in touch quietly replaced being together.
Actually Hangout is the opposite of that. It's a social app whose whole job is to get you to see your friends more. Every thing you see on your feed is an invite! We give you a feed where you can see what your friends are currently doing and interested in doing in the future. It has all the tools you need in one place, whether it's to find things to do, plan, schedule on a friend's calendar, send invites, or facilitate spontaneous hangouts.
No algorithm, no follower counts, no ads.
It's live now for friend groups in the US and Canada, 18+. I'd love your honest take, especially the critical kind.
Have you considered adding a quick "free this Friday?" poll right inside each hangout so we can lock down a day without the usual 12-message back-and-forth. Would make it way easier to actually turn the chat into plans.
Really love the idea of nudging people toward real hangouts instead of just texting. One thing that would help me actually use it: a quick "who's free this Saturday afternoon" poll you can drop into a group, so the planning doesn't stall out the way it usually does in our group chat.
finally an app that pushes me off my couch. tried it last week and it actually surfaced two friends i hadn't seen in months, no awkward "we should hang soon" texts required.
Finally downloaded it yesterday and the calendar nudge actually got me to text a friend I hadn't seen in months. Love that it doesn't gamify it with streaks or anything, just gently reminds you who's nearby.
Tried it for a week and it actually got me off the couch. Love how it nudges you to set a real time and place instead of leaving things as "we should hang soon." Made plans with two friends I hadn't seen in months.
Love the premise here. One thing that would make it way more useful for me: a gentle nudge when a friend you havent seen in a while is going to be somewhere nearby, like a same cafe or event, so you can actually catch them in the moment instead of finding out later.
