What inspired me to build WonderIpsum?
It started with a real client project – an e‑commerce cosmetics demo. I needed realistic product data, images, and a working API before the backend was ready.
I tried fakestoreapi first. Static schema. I couldn't change anything. Then I used picsum.photos for images – and right in the middle of a demo, a golden retriever appeared next to a lipstick. You can imagine how that looked.
On the backend, I used Faker to generate mock data. But even after explaining it was just placeholder data for functionality, the client didn't like it. The fake‑sounding names broke trust.
So I ended up manually generating realistic records with AI, saving them as JSON, and writing Laravel seeders. That process was slow and painful.
That's when I thought: what if I could build a visual schema builder, generate near‑realistic mock data with AI, serve it via a live API, and pair it with context‑matched images? No more dogs in a cosmetics demo. No more "Product 1".
WonderIpsum is that vision, built. It saves hours of manual seeding, makes demos credible, and lets developers focus on what matters – building great products.
