**What inspired it:** it started small — I kept seeing people ask for a budgeting spreadsheet. Everyone wanted the same thing: where their money goes. And I kept thinking — why hand them a spreadsheet that falls apart, when they could have a simple working app that shows their expenses AND their profit?
**The problem:** those budgeting spreadsheets were never reliable — missing formulas, a broken cell here and there. And the freelancers and small businesses I worked with had the same issue: they knew how much they EARNED, but not how much they actually KEPT. The existing tools solve this for accountants, not for them — accounting software assumes you know what a journal entry is. The tools weren't missing features; they were missing simplicity.
**How the approach evolved:** what began as "a better budgeting spreadsheet" grew into full bookkeeping — but I learned to remove features, not add them. Every screen got rebuilt around one question: "what's my real profit?" As an accountant, that forced some opinionated calls — invoices don't count as income until you're actually paid, voiding an invoice never touches cash you already received, and every number traces back to a real transaction. Simplicity isn't fewer features — it's books that stay right without you thinking about them.
