uDocumentViewer
Open any file in your browser — 216 formats, zero uploads
uDocumentViewer opens 216+ file formats right in your browser — PDFs, images, ebooks, spreadsheets, 3D models, CAD/PCB, scientific data (DICOM, NIfTI, FITS), geospatial, email, fonts, and more. What makes it different: every file is decoded on your own device with JavaScript and WebAssembly. Nothing is ever uploaded It's not just a viewer: 107 client-side converters, 7 compressors, and 21 editing tools (merge PDF, trim video, crop images, and more). No accounts, no quotas, no ads, no paywall.
So this started because I was fed up.
Someone would send me a file and it'd be this whole thing. A .heic from an iPhone I couldn't open on my laptop. A 3D model a friend wanted feedback on. Once it was a DICOM scan from a doctor and I genuinely had no idea what to do with it. Every time, the options were the same: install some sketchy desktop app, or drag my file into a random "free online viewer" and just... hope they weren't keeping a copy. That second one always bugged me. You're uploading your tax doc, your medical scan, your whatever, to a server you know nothing about.
So I built the thing I wanted. You drop a file in, it figures out what it is, and it opens it. That's it. And nothing leaves your machine — it all runs in your browser, so there's genuinely no upload happening. If you're the type to check the network tab, please do, that's kind of the whole point.
It got a little out of hand on the format count (216 now, somehow) — PDFs and images and spreadsheets, but also the weird stuff: CAD files, LIDAR point clouds, Outlook emails, packet captures, astronomy data. If you've ever double-clicked a file and gotten "no app can open this," there's a decent chance this handles it. It also converts and compresses and does basic edits, all the same way, on-device.
No account, no paywall, no ads. I'm not totally sure what it becomes yet, honestly — right now I just wanted it to exist.
Would love to know what breaks, and what formats you wish it opened. Throw the weirdest file you've got at it.
