I originally built tro-net for my grandparents. They would regularly call me when an email felt suspicious and ask whether it was real, fraudulent, or safe to act on. As a software engineer and someone who also gets a lot of spam emails, what surprised me was how convincing some of the messages had become. A few even impersonated friends they had known for years.
I wanted to give them a simple way to get a second opinion without needing to call me every time, install a complicated inbox monitor, or decode technical warnings. With tro-net, you forward a suspicious email and receive a clear assessment of whether it appears safe or potentially fraudulent, along with the reasons behind that assessment. The explanation matters: it helps people recognize the same warning signs for themselves next time.
What began as a small service for my family evolved into a platform for individuals, households, and teams—anyone who wants another pair of eyes before trusting an email, clicking a link, or sending money. Right now the best way for companies to avoid security breaches due to employee targeted phishing emails is training and awareness, this encompasses that and the near real time verdict they can use to check any email before they fall victim to it.
