I'm Arbad. We launched Tiune here 1 month ago as a Mac-only dictation app.
This is the version I actually wanted to ship.
Tiune is dictation for macOS and Windows. Hold a key, talk, and finished text
lands wherever your cursor is — punctuated, capitalised, with the "um"s and
"you know"s gone. The speech engine is inside the app, so it runs offline from
the first launch, with no account, and nothing in the dictation path touches
the network. Your voice does not leave your machine. That part is free and
unlimited.
Three things changed since last time:
Windows. Same app, same hold-and-talk loop. Push-to-talk is right Alt there
rather than ⌥Space, because Alt+Space has meant the window menu since 1990.
It writes what you meant, not what you said. Say "meet at six, no, maybe
five, let's say five" and the text reads "let's meet at five". The line it
can't cross is enforced rather than requested: the shorter text has to be
reachable from your own words by deleting them, so a "maybe" stays a "maybe"
and nothing gets put in your mouth. And there's an undo on a key if it ever
gets it wrong.
One sentence, more than one language. I speak a mix of Urdu and English,
often inside a single sentence, and every dictation tool I tried made me pick
one up front. Tiune doesn't.
Two honest notes:
The Windows installer isn't code-signed. Azure Trusted Signing will be available in the next update You will get a SmartScreen warning — "More info"
→ "Run anyway". I'd rather say it here than have you meet it at the download.
And the paid side: $3/mo adds the rewrite, $11/mo adds cloud transcription and
the mixed-language pass. Everything local stays free. It isn't a trial, so
there's no timer on it.
244 commits and 50-odd fixed bugs since the last launch, most of them reported
by people here. I'll be in the comments all day — tell me what breaks.
