The short version of how thisweek happened: we tried everything for meal planning and none of it stuck. Meal delivery kits. Services that allow you to pick recipes and then ship you their ingredients. Doing it ourselves by choosing meals from a single service for the week and mapping out shopping runs. The kits got expensive and repetitive. The DIY version was a revalation initially but also became stale and the app was buggy and offered a poor experience. What we actually enjoy is picking recipes from around the web. That part is great. The organizing was the problem. There was no good way to pull those recipes together or turn them into a list you can walk into a store with. So thisweek is the tool we wanted. Paste the links for what you're cooking this week. It pulls the ingredients, sorts them by category, and merges the duplicates, so three recipes calling for garlic don't become three separate line items. You can start using it without logging in, with everything kept on your device. However, when you're ready for the features that an account offers you can migrate your recipes from the devices where they're stored. Also, if you want to shop with someone else just sign in and share your lists. They can claim what they're picking up and check things off, so you don't both come home with onions. The product is early but we still use it every week ourselves. If you give it a try, tell us where it does and doesn't work for you. We've already added 90% fidelity offline only support & Youtube recipe import based on user feedback.
