This started as one stubborn problem: consolidating my family's email, which turned out to be 736,000 messages across 236 backup files — half of them duplicates. I built a local tool to fix it. Then I realized the same rot was everywhere: 472,982 photos across four terabytes of drives and phones, documents in a hundred folders, chat exports nobody could read, contacts split across a stack of old phones. Same problem, same fix, five times over.
The Attic is five small desktop apps — EmailAttic, PictureAttic, DocAttic, ChatAttic, ContactAttic — that each gather your scattered data, de-duplicate it, and organize it into one archive on your own computer. They run on Windows and Linux today, with a Mac build on the way. Everything runs locally: nothing uploaded, no account, no subscription.
