Hi Product Hunt 👋
TakPulse started with a single hike. On 22 August I climbed the Donon, in the Vosges mountains, and wanted to understand what my heart rate had actually done on the climbs. My watch's app gave me a few scores I couldn't check. The alternatives wanted an account and my data on their servers.
So I built the tool I wanted:
- Your files, your device. Import FIT, GPX or TCX files and everything is analyzed on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. There's no account and no cloud sync.
- Encrypted by default. Activities live in a vault that only your passcode unlocks. There's also an optional duress code that opens an empty decoy vault.
- Numbers you can check. Every metric has a "how to read this" sheet that cites its sources. I deliberately left out clinical vocabulary and proprietary scores I can't reproduce honestly.
My approach changed along the way. I first planned simple rule-based analysis. By version 1.1 it had become a local AI that learns how your own heart rate responds to pace and slope, trained only on your outings and only on your device. Once it has enough outings, it shows whether your form is improving and estimates your heart rate if you repeated a route.
The FIT parser is written from scratch in Swift. It works well on my own watch's files, but I'd love to hear from anyone whose export from another brand doesn't import cleanly.
