SoPoet
Share a short poem and a photo on this calmer social site
SoPoet is a creative community built around the simple idea of slowing down. Rather than chasing likes, trends and endless feeds, you pair a photograph with a poem of at most seven lines to create a poetgraph. No algorithm, no infinite scroll. Likes are sparks, comments are glosses, and a poem landing on 5,7,5 is recognised as a haiku and badged, as are tanka, cinquain and the Fib. A word of the day nudges you when stuck, and a streak counts the days you write. Join now for the 'Inkling' title.
At a time when people are growing tired of endless scrolling and online negativity, we wanted to try an alternative.
SoPoet is a creative social community built around the simple idea of slowing down. Rather than chasing likes, trends and endless feeds, SoPoet encourages you to combine a photograph with a short snippet of poetry, at most seven lines, to create what we call a 'poetgraph'. A thoughtful pairing of words and images, made to inspire other people.
What we are really trying to recreate is a feeling many of us remember from the early days of online communities. Welcoming spaces where creativity, conversation and lasting friendship came before algorithms and outrage. So there is no algorithm here and no infinite scroll. Likes are called sparks, because that is what a good poem gives you, and comments are called glosses, after the notes people write in the margins of a book. If your poem happens to land on 5,7,5, SoPoet quietly recognises it as a haiku and awards it a badge. The same goes for tanka, cinquain and the Fib. Nobody is asking you to try. It is simply a nice thing when it happens.
We believe social media can be a place to pause rather than rush. They say a picture speaks 1,000 words. We say why not have both?
Explore the platform, create your own poetgraphs, and leave anonymous feedback at sopoet.co.uk/feedback to help us improve it. As a thank you to everyone joining at this early stage, every new member receives the vintage title Inkling, recognising them as one of the platform's founding community members.
Whether you are an experienced poet, an enthusiastic photographer, or simply someone looking for a calmer corner of the internet, you are welcome here. All ages and abilities.
Open your camera roll, look at the most recent photo, and give it up to seven lines.

Who hunted SoPoet?
SoPoet was hunted by SoPoet. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
