Dinesh here, solo indie developer behind Snag.
About five months ago, I posted an early Android-only build of Snag. It was rough around the edges, but the premise was simple: stop letting coupon screenshots quietly expire in photo galleries.
Since that post, I've spent the last few months rebuilding the app from the ground up:
- Snag is now live on both iOS and Android (built natively with Kotlin Multiplatform).
- Added a native Share Extension so you can beam screenshots directly from your camera roll or browser without opening the app first.
- Built "Tap-to-Map" OCR: if a promo image has weird branding or fonts, you can literally tap the visual text box on the screenshot to populate the code or expiry date.
- Redesigned the entire UI with Organic Minimalism and dark glassmorphism so it's clean, snappy, and distraction-free.
- Kept the core promise intact: 100% on-device, offline-first, no logins, no ads, and zero cloud data collection.
One fun technical rabbit hole on this release: tuning on-device OCR to parse international expiry date formats ("DD/MM", "MM/DD", "Valid thru Sunday", "Expires end of month") across localized screenshots without pinging an external LLM API took dozens of regex iterations and edge-case handling. Keeping it fast, local, and private was worth every headache.
