elise here, back with the second launch of Scientific Figure. We launched in August as a figure generator. Since then it has turned into a figure editor, and that is the part I want to show you.
The August version gave you a figure in 30 seconds. The problem was what happened a week later, when a reviewer wanted one protein renamed and one arrow moved. You could regenerate a region, but you could not grab the arrow.
Now you can. Edit in Canvas splits a generated figure into real objects: labels are live text, arrows and shapes move, shading is a gradient you can recolour. Export is a layered SVG or an editable PPTX, and both open as objects in Illustrator, Figma and PowerPoint, not as one flattened picture.
The second thing researchers kept asking for was plots. There are now eleven plot and diagram makers: box plot, bar graph with SD/SEM bars, histogram, heatmap, line, scatter, radar, bell curve, tree diagram, Bode plot and Lewis structure. Paste your numbers or a CSV. The values are computed in code first and only then drawn, so a bar is as tall as your data says, not as tall as the model guesses.
Also new since August: one-click recolour to 23 journal-style palettes, export up to 8K, a publication license certificate with a verifiable number on paid plans, and the GPT Image 2.5 models.
Same honest caveat as last time: AI gets you close, not there. Check every label yourself before it goes into a manuscript. That is exactly why nothing is flattened. And ask your journal about its AI disclosure policy.

What I would love from you: open the canvas on something you actually drew for a paper and tell me where the split breaks. Dense pathway maps and figures with rotated text are the cases I am least sure about.
