Hey everyone! 👋 I’m Rodrigo, the maker behind Scheduler for WhatsApp.
I’m thrilled to finally share this with the community today! Here is the backstory of why I built it, the problem I was trying to solve, and how it evolved into a native macOS app:
🎾 The Spark & The Problem
It all started with a personal frustration. Every week, my local sports club opens court bookings at 8:00 AM sharp on WhatsApp. If you send your message at 8:00:03, you miss out; if you send it at 7:59:59, the admins reject it. I kept having to disrupt my morning routine just to hit "Send" at the exact second.
When I looked for tools to solve this, I found that almost every existing solution had three huge dealbreakers:
Privacy risks: They required connecting to third-party cloud servers that intercept and read your private chat sessions.
The "Sleep" problem: If your MacBook closed or went into sleep mode overnight, scheduled messages simply wouldn't send.
Predatory subscriptions: They charged $20–$40 every month for clunky marketing bots aimed at mass spam.
🛠️ How It Evolved
I initially hacked together a rough local Python script just to solve my own booking problem. It worked like a charm, but soon friends and colleagues asked if they could use it for daily team standups, client reminders, and birthday messages.
That’s when I decided to build a true, standalone macOS desktop app from the ground up:
Hardware Auto-Wake (pmset): I integrated macOS RTC hardware programming so the Mac automatically powers on from sleep 2 minutes before the dispatch time.
Sub-50ms Dispatch Engine: Re-engineered the input delivery using native macOS pasteboards and DOM hooks to achieve near-instantaneous execution.
100% On-Device & Zero Telemetry: Everything lives locally in your restricted user directory (~/.whatsapp_scheduler). No cloud backend, no message scraping, zero data tracking.
