Users upload a photo of a home or neighborhood area, and the system identifies possible hazards, returns a safety score, and provides clear recommendations with visual suggestions. Unlike paper checklists or hazard detection tools that stop at recognition, SafeLLM turns everyday photos into easier to understand, more personalized safety guidance. Feedback from older adults would be especially valuable.
Hi everyone, we built SafeLLM as an NYU capstone project to make home safety assessment easier to access and understand for older adults.
Many current options depend on professional visits, paper checklists, or hazard detection tools that stop at recognition. We wanted to build something more practical: users upload a photo of a home or neighborhood area, and SafeLLM returns a safety score, possible hazards, recommendations, and visual suggestions.
During development, our thinking evolved from detecting risks to explaining them in a way that feels clear and actionable. Our main goal is not just to flag problems, but to help people better understand what to improve and why.
We are still early and would love feedback on whether the results feel useful, clear, and trustworthy, especially from older adults and caregivers.
