RestShade started because I was driving through my neighborhood here in Oregon one day and saw a bunch of guys working on a roof. It was brutally hot, smoky, and generally miserable outside. And I found myself wondering: Who is making sure these guys are safe? Not because I thought their employer was doing anything wrong. I genuinely had no idea what the rules were. So I started digging. Oregon has specific requirements around heat and wildfire smoke exposure. There are temperature and air-quality thresholds, acclimatization requirements, training, plans, notifications, recordkeeping, and actions employers need to take as conditions change. The regulations made sense. What struck me was how much operational work sits between having a policy and actually carrying it out across a workforce every day, and how unforgiving the system can be when something simple gets missed. A temperature check. An AQI reading. A daily log. A notification. A record that proves the right action was taken. None of those things are especially complicated. But if they are missed, the consequences can be anything but small. And that burden repeats every day. Someone has to check the conditions. Someone has to know which threshold applies. Someone has to know which workers are still acclimatizing. Someone has to figure out whether anything actually needs to happen today. Someone has to notify people. Someone has to document it. And tomorrow, they get to do it all over again. That felt like exactly the kind of work software should make disappear. So I built RestShade. RestShade watches heat, smoke, and cold conditions at your job sites, keeps the routine records, evaluates when something needs attention, and pings the right people when it does. Most days, you do nothing. When something matters, RestShade tells you.
