My wife works at a school helping children with reading, and that was one of the sparks behind ReadWot. Some children are several years behind their peers. Sometimes it is because of language barriers after moving to a new country, sometimes dyslexia, and sometimes other reading challenges. My wife might get one hour a day to support them in class, but for the rest of the school day they are still expected to complete the same worksheets, homework sheets, PDFs, and classroom tasks. The hard part is that many of these children can understand the work. They are not incapable. They simply cannot access the instructions or content because reading is the wall in front of them. So they often end up copying from peers, not because they are lazy, but because the page is locked to them. ReadWot helps by letting children take photos of school worksheets, upload PDF or DOCX files, or paste text, then turns that content into a clearer reading page with natural text-to-speech voices, accent options, and word highlighting so they can listen and follow along. Once that reading problem was mostly solved, I noticed the next issue at home: kids could now access the text, but still needed help understanding homework tasks while I was busy helping another child. That led to the ReadWot Helper and StudyWot. The helper explains tasks and tricky wording in age-appropriate language without simply giving the answer or doing the work for them. StudyWot then takes their uploaded material and helps turn it into study notes, flashcards, and guided quiz practice so they can prepare for tests from their own school content. So the problem I’m trying to solve is not just “read this text aloud”. It is helping children access the work, understand what is being asked, and build confidence without removing the learning from them.
