Over Christmas 2025, I was visiting my parents in Sweden when I spotted a binder on the bookshelf that I hadn't opened in almost 20 years. Inside were hundreds of Pokémon cards — from Base Set to Neo Genesis — neatly sorted in plastic sleeves. I sat down at the kitchen table and started flipping through, and curiosity immediately took over: what was all of this actually worth? Three problems I didn't expect It quickly became clear that pricing Pokémon cards in Europe was far from straightforward. I ran into three roadblocks I hadn't anticipated: 1. US prices don't apply here Most pricing tools I found showed US market prices, but the European market is vastly different. Prices often diverge by 30-50%, and selling to the US is impractical due to tariffs, shipping costs, and handling time. 2. Digitizing my collection was incredibly tedious Manual cataloging meant looking up the right set, finding the correct number, picking the edition, and saving — for every single card. Doing this for hundreds of cards took hours and was mind-numbingly tedious. The apps that existed either lacked European market support or had poor card recognition. 3. Selling cards took forever Listing cards for sale one by one — take a photo, look up the market price on a third-party site, write a title and description, set the price — was an enormous time sink. Listing 50 cards could eat up an entire evening. So I built what I wished existed. I decided to build the tool I wished I'd had. PokeValue identifies a card from a photo, grades its condition, prices it according to current European market data, and stores the image connected to all the information. All in a seamless flow that takes seconds instead of minutes. By integrating with marketplaces like Tradera, it became possible to list hundreds of cards for sale at once — with accurate prices, condition grades, and photos. What used to take an entire evening now takes minutes. Not just for sellers PokeValue isn't just about selling.
