The idea came from a frustrating personal experience I kept running into situations where apps and services demanded a phone number just to create an account. Not for actual communication, just to "verify" me. Giving out my real number every time felt wrong. It's tied to my identity, my bank, everything. One leak and it's a problem.
I looked at existing solutions and they were either unreliable (numbers already burned by previous users), overpriced, or only worked for one specific use case. I wanted something that actually worked.
So I built numasims. Started with OTP numbers for one-time verifications WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail, Instagram, and 50+ other services. Then users started asking: "what if I need a number that lasts?" So I added long-term numbers with full SMS, voice calls and MMS from 60+ countries. Real numbers you rent monthly, no SIM card, no contract.
The hardest part wasn't the tech it was the pricing. Making it fair for users in different countries (NGN, GHS, USD all supported) while keeping the service sustainable took a lot of iteration.
Still a lot to build. Temp email is coming next. But the core product works well and I'm proud of it.
