I'm John Sherman, founder and solo builder of Misto's Financial from Portland, Oregon.
When Intuit shut down Mint, I went searching for a new home for my finances. What I found was startling: almost every modern budgeting app has turned into an emergency room. So I spent the last year building Misto's Financial around a radically different architectural philosophy:
🌱 **Local-first by conviction:** Your financial ledger lives on your device first (SQLite / IndexedDB). It works 100% offline. Anything backed up is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using client-derived keys — no one, including us, can decrypt your numbers.
🌱 **Read-only by default:** When you choose to connect a bank, access is strictly read-only. Misto can listen to posted transactions; it can never touch or move your money. Prefer not to link your bank at all? Our on-device Statement Importer parses CSV, PDF, OFX, QFX, and QIF files directly inside your browser memory — raw files never leave your computer.
