Merit. Show Up. Earn It.
Your apps are locked. Show up to earn them.
Merit blocks your distracting apps until you physically arrive at the places that matter — gym, library, office, anywhere. How it works: Choose which apps to lock Set a location (gym, library, office — anywhere) Your apps unlock only when you physically arrive Why Merit is different: Screen Time lets you tap "Ignore." Merit doesn't. Other blockers use timers. Merit uses real-world action. Built for the people who are done telling themselves "I'll go tomorrow." Available now on iOS.
Hey everyone! I'm David, the maker of Merit.
I graduated with a CS degree but quickly realized that visualizing an app in your head and actually building it are two completely different things. After college, I found myself stuck in the same cycle every morning — I'd tell myself I was going to the gym, then end up scrolling Instagram or TikTok for an hour and skipping it entirely. The gym was literally 5 minutes from my house.
I tried Screen Time limits. I'd just tap "Ignore." I tried other app blockers. I'd find a workaround within a day. Nothing worked because everything had an escape hatch.
So I built Merit — an app that locks your distracting apps and only unlocks them when you physically show up to a location you set. The gym, the library, the office — wherever you need to be. There's no override button. No "just 5 more minutes." You show up, or your apps stay locked.
But honestly, this isn't just about the gym for me. I wanted to be more present — practicing mindfulness, spending time with my girlfriend without constantly reaching for my phone. Merit forces that in a way willpower alone never could.
I built the entire app over the past couple months using Claude Code, and it's been an incredible learning process. I'm still learning the distribution side of things, and I'm actively taking feedback from early users to make it better every week.
The app is free to download with a one-week free trial, then there's a monthly and yearly plan. Currently available in the US and Canada, working on worldwide availability.
I'd love for you to try it and let me know what you think — what locations would you set? What apps would you lock? Always open to feedback and ideas.
Thanks for checking out Merit, and I hope it helps you show up for the things that matter.
