The web is losing the personal voice and authentic friction that made reading fun. MadeByHumans is an experiment in slow, genuine publishing: hard paste caps to stop text dumps, effort badges tracked via typing cadence, and live timelapses of your backspaces and edits. No content mills, just real people wrestling with ideas one word at a time.
Like a lot of people here, I am tired of all the slop that exists on the web. In my opinion, the internet is losing the personal voice and awkward, authentic friction that made reading online exciting.
I built MadeByHumans (https://madebyhumans.diy/) to experiment with a different publishing model:
Effort Scores: The tool observes natural typing rhythms, pauses, hesitant backspaces, and rewrites, awarding authors badges like Zero-Paste and Deep-Thinker.
Paste Limits: Max 100 words in a single paste, and a cumulative cap of 300 pasted external words over the lifetime of a document
Drafting timelapses: Readers can click "Play" on any post (if shared by the author) to watch a quick timelapse of the piece coming together, complete with all the second thoughts and rewrites.
Choronological + Effort Score Discovery: The front page ranks writing using human effort scores and recency, penalizing clickbait and sloppy content.
Audio Prologue: Authors can attach a raw 60-second voice note to introduce their piece.
The goal, like I have mentioned in my introductory post on the website, is not just fighting machines. It is about bringing back the quiet, messy intimacy of people sharing raw thoughts.
I would love feedback from fellow writers, developers, designers and readers on the mechanics, the editor experience, and whether proof-of-work concepts like keystroke replay can genuinely preserve human writing spaces.
