The honest bits: you need a MacBook with a real lid-angle sensor (MacBook Air M2 or newer, or a 14"/16" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro/Max or newer). There is only an open/closed switch for the M1 Air and 13" M1/M2 Pro, and the app tells you so. The download isn't notarized yet, so the first launch requires System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
