The original version of LiveSunset was built when traveling the world was impossible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial version was built on a weekend hackathon with 3 other friends. Our lust to explore the world overlapped with our knowledge in tech and LiveSunset was born. The idea was to utilize the fact that at every moment there is a sunset somewhere in the world. All we need to do is find it.
The original version didn't work too well tho. Recently I upgraded the project to use AI to rank the cameras to show the best sunsets in realtime. Prior to this feature, it would show the most RECENT sunset but not necessarily NICE ones as beyond a human viewing the current video and ranking, there was no reliable way to determine what is a "good" sunset (weather conditions or past performance aren't reliable enough)
When you enter, the website calculates where the sun is currently setting. It then shows you a live camera feed from that location (or more). Once the sunset is over, you will automatically move to the next sunset. You can see an endless amount of sunsets if you have the time!
