Hey Product Hunt, I built Kanjiru because a close friend of mine is learning Japanese and half-jokingly asked me to build her "exactly this kind of tool." So I did. The problem she kept running into: most resources teach you to recognize kanji, but writing them from memory is what actually makes them stick. She wanted a way to practice that systematically – study a character, then draw it from memory, and track what sticks and what doesn't. What started as a simple drawing exercise grew into a full learning companion – categories, streaks, statistics, JLPT tracking, personal mnemonics. Most of that came from her feedback as the app's first and most honest user. A few things that matter to me: - 100% offline – your data never leaves your device - No ads, no subscription, no tracking - Progress is encrypted locally – you own your data - Free, and that's not going to change Kanjiru is a passion project – built for someone I care about. She's been loving it, so I figured others might too. If you're learning Japanese or have thoughts on what a kanji app should do, I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
