The idea came from seeing how many Shopify stores have hundreds of images with missing or poor alt text. Merchants know alt text matters for accessibility and SEO, but writing it manually is tedious and often gets pushed aside.
At first, I planned to build a simple AI alt text generator for product images. But during development, I realized many important store images aren't product images at all. Collection banners, blog images, and other media were often overlooked, so I expanded the app to support all Shopify images.
Another challenge was quality. Good alt text requires more than describing an image—it often needs product and store context. I spent a lot of time testing different AI models and refining prompts to make the generated alt text more accurate and natural.
