Hi Product Hunt, I'm Heet, the maker of HushOS. The goal is simple: make the private choice the easy choice. Your files should stay yours without making everyday storage feel like a security project. HushOS 1.0 starts with Drive. Upload, organize, preview, search, and share files in a familiar browser app. Files are encrypted on your device before they leave it. The code is open source, and you can use hushos.com or run the same app on your own server. The hosted free plan includes 2 GiB; paid plans add storage. This started with a prototype I built in 2023, including a protocol I wrote by hand. It worked, but getting from a working prototype to something I wanted people to trust meant revisiting the decisions underneath it. For the GPT-6 Astra Challenge, I used Astra as a coding partner throughout that process. We iterated on the product design and everyday interactions, revisited my original protocol, and worked through implementation details, performance, edge cases, and tests. The work was as much about questioning the old design as writing new code. That meant improving how keys are separated and wrapped, binding encrypted envelopes to where they belong, reserving storage before uploads, and making sharing and revocation actual key operations. We turned weaknesses from the prototype into explicit rules and tests, then kept iterating on how those rules felt in the interface. Astra helped me work across the UI, protocols, and implementation without losing sight of the whole product. Astra also caught issues I had missed. One example: the presence of a thumbnail could leak whether an encrypted file was media or another binary type. It helped me look beyond the encrypted contents and question what the surrounding metadata could reveal. We also worked on performance as we iterated, because a private drive still needs to feel fast in everyday use. The design documents and code are public so people can inspect the decisions. Drive is the first piece; messages, notes, and the rest of the suite are still ahead.
