Hey Product Hunt 👋 I build small, native Apple apps, and this one is for a corner of the world most of you have (happily) never heard of — but stick with me, the idea is simple and the craft might be your thing. In German construction, bills of quantities (Leistungsverzeichnisse) are exchanged between different tendering programs as GAEB DA XML files. Like any format that travels between tools, they break: wrong ordinal numbers, prices that shouldn't be there, missing prices that should, mismatched totals, invalid units. The catch — you usually find out after you've already sent the file to a client. GAEB X-Ray is a read-only inspector — an X-ray — for those files. Drag one in, or a whole folder, and it instantly shows you what's inside and whether anything is wrong. What's included: Drag & drop, "Open with", or a file picker — read-only throughout; the file is never modified. On macOS it's sandboxed with read-only access, so you can throw real project files at it without a second thought. Whole folders at once — it scans a folder for every GAEB file (.x80–.x87) and checks them in one pass, then floats the problem files to the top. Tap one to open its full report. Drop 50 files, see in seconds which three will cause trouble. A three-tab report — Übersicht (verdict: readable / errors / warnings / notes, key figures, and the file's phase X80–X87 + schema version), Struktur (file details + an inventory of the bill of quantities — positions, categories, depth, coverage), and Befunde (the actual findings — ordinal numbers, structure, units, totals, phase rules — each with its exact location). A real file navigator — group the list by project, phase or result; search; sort. Made for folders with a lot of files. Export the findings as CSV — hand a colleague (or your QA process) a plain list of what's wrong, where. Native SwiftUI, one codebase, a proper Mac / iPad / iPhone app with light/dark and Dynamic Type — not a wrapped web view. On iPhone the report slides in; on iPad/Mac it's a two-column layout. 100% on-device. No cloud, no upload, no account, no analytics. It never even needs a network. Built with: native SwiftUI from a single codebase, sharing a pure Swift package (GaebKit) that does the parsing/validation. The checks follow the official GAEB 3.3 Fachdokumentation across phases X80–X87. No trackers, no ads, no account — and the app asks for a review only after you've actually inspected a few files, never mid-task. Full honesty (this is the caveat PH respects): it's a deliberately niche, German-language tool, and it's the free companion to a bigger app — GAEB Explorer — that actually opens, edits and converts these files. X-Ray only reads and checks. I wanted that read-and-check part to be fast, private, and genuinely nice to use, and to give it away. What I'd love feedback on: the on-device / read-only approach, the report UX and the batch workflow, and — if anyone here is in construction/AVA — whether the checks match what actually bites you in real life.
