I’m the maker of FreePlayArena.
I built this as a side project to learn Next.js and explore whether a simple browser gaming site could become self-sustaining through ads.
It currently has 300+ HTML5 games that run instantly without downloads or login.
A few things I’ve learned:
- Building the product was straightforward, but getting traffic is much harder
- Most sites in this space rely heavily on SEO at scale
- Users tend to play briefly and leave, so retention is a challenge
Tech stack:
- Next.js (App Router, static generation)
- Deployed on Vercel
- Games via GameMonetize iframe API
What I’m working on next:
- Programmatic SEO (pages per game/category)
- Improving session time and discovery
