Forever Machines
strange little machines that make sound
Strange little machines that make sound. A new one is born every week. Nobody chooses it.
I’m Juan, and I built Forever Machines: a collection of strange little sound machines that grows by one every week.
Why I built it I love instruments that have a personality: the odd synth with three knobs, the toy that only does one thing but does it beautifully. I wanted a place where those kinds of ideas could keep appearing. Every Monday at 06:00 Swedish time a new machine is born. Nobody chooses it, and nothing is ever removed, so the collection only gets bigger.
Each machine is an instrument built around one idea: tree rings that play their own weather, ants that sing when they turn, a sunflower that refuses to come out even, a barbershop quartet you conduct with your fingers. You twist the knobs, poke the screen, play them from a keyboard, layer them and record them.
🎛️ In Ableton Live, as a free Max for Live device that gets each new machine by itself
📱 iPhone, iPad and Mac (TestFlight beta), with an AUv3 plugin for AUM, Loopy Pro, Logic and GarageBand: host sync, a mixer, and AUv3 effects on each channel
🛠️ The Workbench, where you can build your own machine by hand or with your AI agent and import it into the app
The feedback that would help most
Which machine did you play the longest, and which one confused you?
If you make music: how does it feel inside your DAW or host? Does it stay in time?
What kind of machine would you love to see born next?
Thanks for playing, and see you next Monday. 🎩
