FinSim
See how kids, debt & retirement shape your wealth
Unlike most financial simulators, FinSim shows you two side-by-side scenarios so you can see exactly how carrying debt, having children, and your retirement timeline interact over decades. Debt— model your payoff timeline and see how it frees up wealth long-term. Child costs—powered by real NDCP childcare data specific to your county. Financial independence age—based on the 4% rule, updated in real time as you adjust your inputs. Built by a solo developer in SwiftUI. Free, no ads, no purchases.
Hey Product Hunt!
I built FinSim because I noticed that one of the biggest financial decisions people make — whether and when to have children — is almost always made on intuition rather than numbers.
Some people worry about whether they can afford kids while maintaining the lifestyle they want, but that concern stays vague because they've never actually modeled it out. Others are certain they want children and haven't really thought through what early childcare costs, education, college, and the long-term compounding effect on their retirement savings actually looks like in dollar terms.
I wanted to build something that takes that vague intuition and turns it into a concrete, visual projection — not to tell anyone what decision to make, but to make sure the financial picture is clear before they make it.
So FinSim runs two scenarios side by side: your financial trajectory with children and without, using real regional childcare cost data, your actual debt situation, and your retirement goals. The gap between those two lines on the chart tells you something no rule of thumb or gut feeling can.
It's free, no ads, no account required, and everything stays on your device.
Would love honest feedback from this community — happy to answer any questions about the model or the assumptions under the hood.
