Searh your photos & videos with people, places, scenes and text inside them. Apply multiple filters and find the correct photos you need. Everything locally on your device without uploading to any cloud. Face Gallery uses local tenserflow lite models to index your media automatically. Your photos never leave your phone. 100% private. You can choose which photos to process avoiding unnecessary compute overhead. You can choose to auto sync folders so that every time you open app results are ready.
The idea for Face Gallery has been living in my head for years, rooted in a very specific frustration from my school days. Growing up in a middle-class household with limited, expensive internet (we’re talking 1–2GB per month), managing a growing photo library was a nightmare. While Google Photos existed, the "cloud-first" approach wasn't an option for me. I searched the Play Store for an offline alternative that could organize photos by people, places, and text—but it simply didn't exist.
Fast forward a few years: internet became cheap, and I started throwing everything into Google Photos. Problem solved... until June 2021, when Google ended unlimited storage. I was still in college, navigating an educational loan, and suddenly I was back to square one. I simply could not afford extra storage for Google Photos.
Now, as a software engineer, I realized the app I needed back then still hadn't been built. So, I built it myself. 🛠️
Face Gallery is a privacy-first, fully offline gallery organizer. Here’s how it works:
On-Device AI: Uses TensorFlow Lite models for face recognition and scene detection. Your data never leaves your phone.
Smart Grouping: It automatically groups similar faces and recognizes 100s of different scenes (mountains, pets, documents, etc.).
Searchable Screenshots: With built-in OCR, you can finally search for that one specific screenshot by the text inside it.
Total Control: Unlike other apps that blindly process your entire library—draining battery and time—Face Gallery lets you choose specific folders to index. You can enable auto-sync for specific albums and see exactly how many items are being processed in real-time.
