Hi PH, I’m David, I built this.
I kept deleting Instagram and reinstalling it a week later because I need the DMs. Every blocker I tried either blocked the whole app (so I turned it off) or was a browser copy of Instagram (so I stopped using it). What I wanted was simple: the real apps, minus the one feed that eats my evenings.
Donzo does that. Instagram and YouTube stay as they are. The moment a Reels or Shorts feed shows up on screen, a black screen covers it. Tap the dot at the top of the screen and you’re back on your home feed. There’s no “ignore for 5 minutes” button.
How it works, since you’ll ask: it watches the screen on the phone itself, so it catches Reels inside the real apps. Nothing leaves the phone. There’s no account, no server, and no networking code in the app at all. Apple’s privacy label will say Data Not Collected.
A few things I decided on purpose:
– Reels a friend sends you in a chat still play. Swiping from there into the feed is blocked.
– “Only at home”: turn it on and Donzo works only while your phone is at home. Out with people, Instagram is normal.
– You buy it once. No subscription needed.
It’s in beta, iPhone only, and you’ll see the reel for a blink before it goes black. I’d rather say that here than have you find out.
