DinkyTask turns a child's actual schoolwork into daily practice. Photograph a page of their textbook and it becomes a quiz; have it read aloud with the text following along sentence by sentence; let them ask an AI helper that only answers from that material. Chores and routines live in the same daily plan, so one approval screen covers homework and helping out — and the points they earn buy rewards you set yourself.
DinkyTask started with something that kept happening at home: the list for
the day was clear, everyone knew it, and still nothing moved until I asked
a third time.
So I built it. Parents put the day together — homework, chores, routines —
the child works through it on their own, and the points they earn buy
rewards the parents set themselves. One approval screen covers all of it.
The part I didn't plan on building: you can photograph a page of your
child's textbook and DinkyTask turns it into a quiz. It reads the material
aloud too, highlighting the text sentence by sentence as the voice moves
through it, so a child who struggles with reading can follow along. There's
an AI study helper as well, but it only answers from the material you gave
it — and you can read every conversation it has with your child.
It also talks to the rest of your house. Every plan and approval fires a
webhook — plan started, plan completed, submission waiting for review — so
you can wire it into Home Assistant, Node-RED, IFTTT or your own backend.
The lamp in the hallway turning green when the day's tasks are done is a
better reminder than any notification I could write.
Throughout, I kept trying to stop it from turning into another complicated
productivity app. It's a family tool, not a project management suite.
