Turn tonight's homework into a game they ask to play again
Photograph your child's homework. crayon.live reads the answers they wrote, finds the ones they got wrong, and builds a game around those. Their own wrong answer is one of the choices, so they have to think it through instead of recognizing a shape. Each game is written fresh by GPT-6 Astra, then played to the end by the machine that made it before anyone sees it. This began as an entry for OpenAI's Astra Challenge, built at the kitchen table. It might stay a side project. It might not.
I didn't set out to build a product. I found out about the Astra Challenge the same week I was sitting through homework with my two, a second grader and a TK kid, and thinking there had to be a better way to spend 7pm.
So the entry became the thing I wanted that evening: photograph the sheet, and it comes back as a game. If there are questions they got wrong, those go in first, with their own wrong answer among the choices so they can't pattern-match past it. If they got everything right, the game just gives them more of the same to stay sharp. My TK daughter's version mostly involves counting ducks.
The bit I'm proudest of isn't the AI writing the games, it's that every game is played all the way through before it ships. A solver for the built-in engines, a real browser for the ones Astra writes itself. If it can't be finished, it doesn't get published. A kid stuck on an un-winnable level would have been worse than no game at all.
One honest caveat: making a game costs me real money in model time, and I'm paying for it myself, so entry is by invite code. Comment here and I'll send you one while they last. Everything in the gallery is playable right now without a code.
Honestly, I don't know if this is a real product. It works for my two, and it's here if it helps yours. If enough people find it useful, maybe it becomes something. Either way, I'd love to hear how your kids get on with it.
