The idea came from a frustration I've carried for years working in construction: ask 10 estimators how many man-hours it takes to do the same job, and you'll get 10 different answers. Every company guards their rates like trade secrets. The reference books are expensive, static, and cover one market. There's no way to know if your numbers are right.
Then I came across the Wisdom of the Crowd — the principle where a group's average guess beats almost every individual. A professor asked 56 students to guess jelly beans in a jar. The group average was off by just 2.5%. Only 1 student out of 56 did better.
I thought: what if we applied this to construction productivity rates?
So I built Constpedia — a platform where construction professionals vote on whether man-hour rates are accurate. Each vote nudges the rate closer to reality through a convergence algorithm. The more people contribute, the more reliable the data becomes.
