I launched CalPal here in January as a notepad calculator with an AI assistant in it. What I have spent the eight months since on is a different idea about what the model should hand back.
It no longer answers your question. It writes you a small calculator that answers it, and you keep that. Type what you want in plain English and you get a sheet where every line depends on the ones above it — change one number and everything after it moves.
Some of what that took:
– Clock times are real values, so an agenda recomputes when a session runs long. start = 10:00 am, plus a 60 min session, is 11:00 am. Not 10.5.
– 3 pm to 5 pm is two hours.
– Time zones come from the same database your operating system uses, not an offset somebody hardcoded. 9:30 AM IST is 12:00 AM in New York today and 11:00 PM in January.
– 16:9 of 1440 is 810, and the golden ratio tells you which side it assumed.
– Units cancel. Hours times a rate gives money, and money converts.
– Copy the sheet out and the answers come with it, on the lines that need them, so an agenda pastes into a calendar invite ready to read.
– Or share it as a page, and whoever opens it can change the numbers themselves.
