BugBnB is a native macOS menu bar app. It watches your Trash — when the bin gets big enough or old enough, five species move in: fruit flies, cockroaches, ants, drain flies and mosquitoes, and they don't fly at random. I kept forgetting to take out the trash. Not from laziness — the bin just sits there quietly and never says anything, until one day you walk past it and something smells. So instead of trying to remember, I decided to let something else remember for me. I'd seen BananaBin, where a fly buzzes around the Trash, and thought the idea could be pushed much further: not one fly, but five species that behave like the real thing. That's where most of the work went. I read up on Drosophila flight and watched how ants lay trails, because a bug that flies in a straight line looks like a screensaver, and a bug that surges and casts into the wind looks alive. The garbage truck exists for the same reason — watching the bin simply vanish felt wrong.
