Add friction between impulse and distraction
Boomrng is a Chrome extension for intentional browsing. Instead of simply blocking distracting sites, choose the friction you need per site: Checkpoint, Delay, PIN Required, or Hard Block. A global Tab Budget helps prevent tab overload. Local-first, with no account or analytics.
I built Boomrng because I kept running into two problems with how I browsed: opening distracting sites almost automatically, and keeping far too many tabs open even when I wasn't actively using them.
I didn't necessarily want to block every distracting site completely. Sometimes I just needed something between unrestricted access and a hard block — a little friction that made me consciously decide whether I actually wanted to continue.
That's what led to Boomrng's four levels of friction: Checkpoint for a conscious pause, Delay when a little time helps, PIN Required when I want more effort, and Hard Block when I don't want a bypass at all.
For the tab problem, I built Tab Budget. You set the maximum number of eligible tabs you want open, and Boomrng makes you get back under that limit before continuing. It applies across normal Chrome windows, so opening another window isn't an escape hatch.
V2.0 is now live on the Chrome Web Store. There's no account, no analytics or telemetry, and your configuration stays local.
