Like many book lovers, I looked at my bookshelf one late night and saw stacks of books—Clean Code, System Design, and novels—gathering dust after being read once. Meanwhile, retail book prices in developing countries like Bangladesh are skyrocketing, and buying/selling books on social media is chaotic (unstructured "DM for price" posts, spam, and ghosting).
We built BoiMix to turn every home bookshelf into a mini-bookstore and make reading affordable again.
🚀 What makes BoiMix special?
• Hyper-Local Discovery: Built with OpenStreetMap and a self-hosted Photon geocoder, allowing users to find books available within walking or short courier distance.
• Bilingual Fuzzy Search: Elasticsearch with custom ICU analysis for typo-tolerant searching across Bengali and English book titles.
• Standardized Condition Grading: Full transparency with condition tags (Brand New, Like New, Good, Fair).
• Real-time Floating Chat: WebSockets-powered peer-to-peer chat for smooth communication without switching to third-party messaging apps.
• Frictionless Seller Economy: Sales balance is directly tracked and can be withdrawn via local mobile wallets (bKash/Nagad).
• Instant Order Dispatches: Sellers receive real-time push alerts via Firebase FCM and automated transactional emails upon new orders.
🛠️ The Stack:
Next.js (App Router), Django REST Framework, PostgreSQL + PostGIS, Redis, Elasticsearch, WebSockets, and Cloudflare R2 for zero-loss backups.
