Asciilator.app
Turn videos and images into export-ready ASCII visuals
Asciilator is a visual tool for turning media into ASCII-based graphics directly in the browser. It is built for creators, designers, video editors, musicians, and digital artists who want to make retro-futuristic visuals without opening a heavy editing stack. You can upload a video or image, transform it into ASCII, adjust character size, crop, colors, text overlays, matte frames, and effects, then export the final piece. Everything runs locally in the browser.
Hey Product Hunt,
I built Asciilator as a small browser-based studio for creating ASCII visuals from videos and images.
The idea started as a simple ASCII video experiment and slowly turned into a full editor with aspect ratios, frame controls, typography, matte overlays, color modes, effects, image export, and video export.
It is useful for:
- music visuals
- social media posts
- retro/futuristic video loops
- ASCII posters
- experimental web graphics
- quick creative exports without a full video editor
The app runs in the browser, and media processing happens locally.
Would love feedback on the workflow, export quality, and what formats or effects would make it more useful.
