Every letter in both goes into a single pool, and it reads what that pool holds: words, phrases, and occasionally a phrase that uses every single letter with none left over. That last one is rare — most pairs of names don't have one at all. A few real results, all from people long dead so nobody has to feel strange about being used as an example: Johnny Cash & June Carter — EACH OTHER Franklin Roosevelt & Eleanor Roosevelt — NO RAIN NO ROSES Coretta Scott & Martin Luther King — THE MORNING STAR To be clear about what it is and isn't: the maths is exact, and nothing is ever shown unless every letter came from the two names you gave.
